An AI token is the unit we charge for any time you ask Claude to do work on your behalf.
What costs one token
- Smart Extract (⌘⌥-drag on Mac, Ctrl+Alt-drag on Windows) — one structured extraction from a region of the screen
- Snapshot write-up — one auto-drafted paragraph for a captured snapshot
- Session Summary — one multi-image summary across every snapshot in a session
- Direct the video — one edit command in the editor ("blur my email at 0:12"). Undo within 30 seconds and the token is automatically refunded
What's free
- Mirroring, recording, annotation, presenter mode — no AI involved, no token cost.
- Exporting — saving a video, PDF, or slide deck to your device never costs a token.
- Copy Text from Screen — right-click, or ⌘⇧-drag on Mac / Ctrl+Shift-drag on Windows. On a Mac this runs on-device via Apple Vision; on Windows it's built-in text capture. Free either way, and the same captured text feeds Smart Extract behind the scenes.
- Editing a write-up by hand — the AI drafts the first version; tweaking the text after costs nothing.
Where your tokens come from
- Free: 10 one-time tokens on signup. They don't refill — re-up by subscribing to Pro.
- Pro (subscription): 100 tokens / month, auto-refreshing on your billing date. Unused monthly tokens don't carry over; your one-time Free tokens and any top-ups do, and are drawn down only after the monthly allowance runs out. Top-ups (50 for a reference $2.99) are available anytime.
- Teams: every seat is the full Pro subscription, so each member gets the 100/month allowance. See ScreenSolo Teams.
Token counter
The sidebar shows your remaining tokens above the AI feed. The same number appears on your account page and gets pushed back to the desktop whenever an AI call lands.
What if I run out?
Every AI feature pauses cleanly with a *"No tokens left — top up?"* message. Mirroring, recording, and annotation continue normally. Click the message to open the account page where you can buy a top-up or upgrade.
